Sun Peaks Health Centre Improvement Project

Sun Peaks Health Association, a registered charity, opened the Health Centre in 2002 to provide medical and health services to the Sun Peaks community. The Association had previously established a First Responders Team which now resides with the local fire department.

About This Project

Sun Peaks' current facility is a modular building consisting of a reception area, a physician’s office, an examining room and of course, a washroom. The community is fortunate to have a wonderful cadre of volunteers and physicians who staff the facility.

Located next to the Sun Peaks Alpine Club, the Sun Peaks Health Centre is open for Sun Peaks and area residents and guests and offers consultations, prescriptions, crutches, knee immobilizers, casting and lab work. It’s currently open daily from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and operates reduced hours from April to November, and as physicians are available.

It is the Association’s objective to operate this facility and to fund raise for a comprehensive emergency care and health services centre.

Sun Peaks Health Association, in partnership with Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality, are initiating a campaign to raise funds for a Health Care and Emergency Services building.

This facility of approximately 8,000 sq. ft. will be provisioned to provide comprehensive trauma care as well as ongoing community health. It will also house the community's Emergency Operations Centre, and a large area for public health seminars and community activities or meetings.

The preliminary design for the Sun Peaks community health facility is in its final stages according to the Sun Peaks Municipality.

The municipality plans to hold public meetings to update the community on the plan and business model, but no date has been set. It hopes to begin works in the fall of 2013, subject to a successful referendum.
