North Thompson Sportsplex Expansion Project

The North Thompson Sportsplex is located in Clearwater, B.C. in the heart of Wells Gray Country in the beautiful interior of British Columbia. The facility provides a great place for hockey, figure skating, curling and many other community events.

About This Project

The North Thompson Sportsplex is an important facility in the North Thompson region, providing recreational and hosting opportunities, not only to the District of Clearwater, but to the array surrounding communities as well.

In early 2013, city council gave word to go ahead with the addition of five more changing rooms to the North Thompson Sportsplex, funded in part ($400,000)through the province of BC's Community Recreation Program.

The Mayor of Clearwater, John Harwood, noted that the project involves cooperation among School District 73, Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and District of Clearwater.

Sports tournaments have become an important economic driver in Kamloops. Many predict the same could become true of the city's more northern counterpart, Clearwater.

The changing room project wouldn’t have come together if all those involved hadn’t worked together, said Tim Pennell, Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Director for Wells Gray Country.

Two Clearwater-area companies, Borrow Enterprises and Wadlegger Logging, were first on the project on a volunteer basis last year by helping to relocate the road that runs next to the Sportsplex.

Mierau Contractors Ltd. of Abbotsford won the contract this year to construct the changing rooms plus additional exit doors that are required off the ice surface.

The total dressing room expansion project is expected to cost $755,000.

Substantial completion should be by the end of August and completion by mid-September.
