Invest in Vavenby

British Columbia, Canada

The community of Vavenby is located 27 kilometres northeast of the main service centre for the North Thompson Valley, Clearwater. Vavenby is a community of approximately 700 residents. Adjacent to the community lies the North Thompson River, the Yellowhead Highway and the Canadian National Railway.

Recreation in the community consists mainly of outdoor activities. Among these activities are snowmobiling, cross country skiing, horseback riding, hiking, biking and fishing. Numerous lakes are in close proximity with many of them having forestry campgrounds.

Economy in the region centres primarily on forestry, agriculture, and tourism.

The Canfor mill, which had been indefinitely closed in 2009 due to poor market conditions, reopened in September 2011 after a $24 million capital upgrade. In January 2012, Canfor added a second shift for a total of 145 jobs restored to the local region.

The proposed Harper Creek Mine site, approximately 10 kilometres south of Vavenby, could also provide a significant boost to the local economy. The Harper Creek Mine is at the Environmental Assessment stage of development.
