Located at the western end of Kamloops Lake between the communities of Cache Creek and Kamloops, where the Thompson River exits. The community of Savona is home to approximately 640 residents.

The surrounding community is semi-arid grasslands and hills supporting cattle ranching and agriculture. In addition to ranching, main industrial operations in the community include forestry, energy pumping station and tourism.

The community of Savona provides services such as elementary school, a fire department and ambulatory care. The community offers breathtaking lakeside accommodations, a motel, a cafe, a general store, service stations, vehicle repairs and a post office.

Local attractions in and surrounding the community include Deadman Creek Valley, Balancing Rock, the Three Witches Falls, an annual fishing derby, senior's centre carpet bowling, the Savona Community Hall, and the Savona Museum, which also hosts the community library.

The Savona area is the traditional territory of the Skeetchestn Indian Band, with their main reserve located on the north side of the Thompson River just west of Savona.
