The areas McLure and Vinsula are located approximately 48 kilometers north of the TNRD's largest city centre, Kamloops. Vinsula is closely situated to the Sun Peaks Ski Resort exit in Heffley Creek. The area of McLure follows Vinsula and is approximately 23 kilometers south of another city centre, Barriere.

McLure and Vinsula are bordered by the North arm of the Thompson River. McLure is the home to one of three reaction ferries operated by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in the TNRD. This small ferry transports vehicles between McLure and the northern area of Westsyde. Access to the ferry is off of McLure Ferry Road that intersects with Highway 5.

These areas mainly consist of small acreages, farms, ranches and some smaller residential parcels. The area is home to many local farmers, some of whom can be seen selling farm-grown fruits and vegetables throughout the community.

McLure is also home to volunteer fire department that serves all of McLure and the northern portion of Vinsula.

For the most part, educational services are provided through the larger city centre, Barriere, however, residents generally travel to Kamloops for their shopping and cultural amenities.

McLure and Vinsula are within 30 minutes of Sun Peaks Resort which is an all seasons resort with downhill skiing/snowboarding in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. Other recreational activities in the surrounding area include river boat tours, golfing, fishing, trail riding and wildlife viewing.
