Jewel of the Yellowhead

Blue River is located in the North Thompson Valley approximately 230 kilometres north of the TNRD's largest city centre, Kamloops, and approximately 105 kilometres north of Clearwater, another major centre in the region. Additionally, Jasper, AB is located approximately 215 kilometres northeast of the Blue River area.

Blue River has been dubbed the "Jewel of the Yellowhead" and is home to sparkling glacier-fed lakes, breathtaking mountain peaks and intriguing wildlife. The area attracts visitors from around the world throughout the year. Blue River is the northern gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park, providing access to Murtle Lake, the largest non-motorized lake in North America.

Blue River is the perfect rest stop for a Yellowhead picnic, heli-ski adventure, mountain bike experience, or a snowmobile tour. Unlimited lakes, rivers, streams and waterfalls beckon tourists to relax and enjoy the pristine wilderness. There are many opportunities for those who are interested in undertaking self guided adventure to access many wilderness areas for a variety of sporting opportunities.

Naturally, tourism is the largest industry in the Blue River area. Tourists from around the world are attracted to the region for its world-class heli-skiing opportunities, which are largely supported through Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing Tours. Snowmobiling is a growing industry, with Blue River providing uncrowded riding opportunities and a variety of terrain.
