The District of Clearwater is situated in the North Thompson River valley in British Columbia, Canada, where the Clearwater River empties into the North Thomson River. It is located 124 kilometres north of Kamloops, B.C., the TNRD's largest city centre.

The key sectors contributing to Clearwater's local economy include forestry, tourismagriculture, and commercial retail.

With a population of 2,331, Clearwater's workforce is predominantly employed directly or indirectly by the forest industry. Tourism and related outdoors and sports services are also major industries, with Wells Gray Provincial Park just to the north. The park encompasses 5,250 square kilometres, with four rivers, six major lakes, and 39 named waterfalls, including Canada's fourth highest, Helmcken Falls.

Clearwater’s climate, relaxing lifestyle and low cost of living is well-suited for seniors and young working families. The community offers a safe and peaceful lifestyle that includes the amenities of a sustainable community including education, health care and recreational opportunities. A medical centre and full service hospital provides health care. Emergency services include a fire department, R.C.M.P. detachment, ambulance service, and search and rescue. Education is available from kindergarten to grade 12 and post-secondary opportunities are available through Thompson Rivers University outreach program. Recreational opportunities abound in the area with up to date facilities and a wilderness backcountry.

Current infrastructure, which includes a modern sewage and water system, is capable of serving almost double the current population. Other services include financial, legal and realty offices, a mini mall, grocery store and over 135 other businesses to serve one's needs. The District of Clearwater is the gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park.
