The District of Barriere is located 64 kilometers north of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District's (TNRD) largest city centre, Kamloops, B.C., along highway 5. It is nestled in the North Thompson Valley surrounded by the Barriere and North Thompson Rivers.

Barriere is partially driven by the forest industry, however, the other industries which serve the town are tourism and agriculture. Currently, mining development is on the increase in the North Thompson Valley, and it is predicted that many forestry workers will transfer from forestry to mining as these new developments begin production. New businesses are starting to migrate to Barriere as the community grows with independent and sustainable resources.

Barriere is a beautiful place to raise a family, start a business or retire in an affordable and safe community. Abundant recreation is at residents' doorsteps in a relaxing hometown atmosphere.
